A first-generation Italian-American, Michael Merendino was born and raised in Long Island, New York. Growing up, he was deeply influenced by his family's rich culinary traditions. His mother, hailing from Abruzzi, Italy, prepared simple yet gourmet dishes, while his father, originally from Toretta, Sicily, owned and operated Francesca’s pizzeria in Great Neck, Long Island. In this environment, Michael developed a profound appreciation for authentic Italian cuisine and the joy of sharing meals with loved ones.

In 2007, Michael brought his passion for East Coast-style Italian cooking to Arizona by establishing Crust Simply Italian. His vision was to recreate his childhood's warm, familial atmosphere, offering guests a place to enjoy traditional Italian dishes made from scratch. Over the years, Crust has expanded to multiple locations, each serving as a testament to Michael's dedication to quality and authenticity. In addition to Italian, Merendino also opened three craft cocktail bars attached to each Crust location, where guests can enjoy a handcrafted drink after a delicious meal.
